AND you heard it here first, Pete Faucher will be taking over the Trans Montréal race next year, looking forward to seeing more Phoenix runners attempt this 60k flat race which runs from one end of the island to the other along Gouin Boulevard. For those who can't attend the MRSQ, this is a nice alternative in the fall when it is cooler. I will move the date to November 11 (TBC) as to not interfere with October marathons... more to come.
Congratulations to Susan Crawford who ran her first ultra race at the Trans Montréal 60km run and finished with a respectable third place women. Anna Maria also ran the distance just a week after the Marathon du P'tit Train du Nord, that would be over 60km since AM got lost, you will have to factor this into your races from now on ;-) AND you heard it here first, Pete Faucher will be taking over the Trans Montréal race next year, looking forward to seeing more Phoenix runners attempt this 60k flat race which runs from one end of the island to the other along Gouin Boulevard. For those who can't attend the MRSQ, this is a nice alternative in the fall when it is cooler. I will move the date to November 11 (TBC) as to not interfere with October marathons... more to come. I have been running ultra trail distances for the last 3 years. In 2015 I ran a 3:07:04 in Toronto after a summer of trail running which culminated in a 100km pacing assignment in Pennsylvania. In 2016, i decided I would run my first 100 miler, so I ran the 120km Petite Trotte à Joan, trained all summer, ran and finished the Haliburton 100 miler and then DNF'd in Philly because of a calf injury. In 2017, I decided i would run another 100 miler at the Eastern States, much thougher than Haliburton, so I needed to ramp up the millage and elevation training. I also thought it would be a good idea to run the Barkley Fall Classic. I ran both and finished both to get my buckle and Croix de Barque. Having learned my lesson in 2016, I decided to not register for a fall marathon, the Marathon du P'tit Train du Nord became my fall marathon project. BUT after my ultra races, I wasn't injured and actually felt quite good, so I decided to participate in a Fatass Marathon event organized by a running friend. The event was a week after the P'tit Train, and I trained as much as i could with Alan, Guillaume, David and Elizabeth. I called it the "Marathon de Nowhere" on social media, and treated it like a "real" marathon. I only had 5 weeks to train for it after BFC, but I still set a lofty goal of sub 3:05 which would have been a PB. I ran the marathon with 4 other runners with 3 water stops along the way. I ran it balls to the wall at sub 3:05 pace till 32km, the pace was given by my friend Olivier so I had no choice but to follow. At the end of the day it was a bit too much for my tired legs nearing 5000km at the end of the month. Still, I managed a 3:08:55 including stops to wait for our pacers and to drink, so a 3:06:45 of running time. Happy with the result and it bodes well for a sub 3:05 PB in 2018 as I will take a break from 100 milers to do marathon specific training.
https://www.relive.cc/view/1252404665 Congratulations to Shayan Mantegh who competed at the "Championnats provinciaux civils, collégiaux et universitaires de cross-country 2017 at Parc Maisonneuve in the "Populaire" Category. He came in 4th in 21:48 at an average pace of 3:38. Congratulations to Kid Shayan who finished 1st at the Tour Mont Royal Brebeuf 11.7 km. It was a close finish with times of 47:31, 47:38 and 47: 49. Good job Shayan!
Congratulations to everyone who ran and cheered at the inaugural Marathon du P'tit Train du Nord. Very proud to have seen so many Phoenix Runners participate. I have been working on this project since last October and it was a thrill to see it come together in such fine manner. Everyone gave it their all. For some it was Personal Best, for everyone it was a Best Effort to get it done, and all crossed the finish line standing! Good job TEAM PHOENIX! Congratulations to Shayan Mantegh who ran a 10k PB at the Classique du Parc La Fontaine in 36:22 at an average pace of 3:38 min/km. These were the Provincial Championships and the fastest 10k runners in the province were there to battle it out. 8 runners ran under 32 minutes with Pierre-Olivier Laflamme clocking in the fastest time in 30:40 at an average pace of 3:04 min/km. I was invited by MatRun* from the Repentigny Running Club Les ASPirants to run their inaugural half marathon. The weather was horrible with a huge downpour and high winds most of the race, but I had a great time. So much so, I decided to run the 5km after, luckily the sun came out for that race, but winds were even worse. My legs were still tired from the Barkley Fall Classic and a high volume 175km week last week, but it was a good test of my fitness just in case I decide to run a marathon sometime in the fall. I managed a 9th place finish and 2nd place 50-59 in the half and a 1st place 50-59 finish in the 5k. Fun day with a nice healthy lunch afterwards! *Many know MatRun from the 100km MRSQ, the tall guy with a beard, great guy! Half Marathon 5K Congratulations to Melanie, Suzie and Alan Miller who ran the 11km at the Cross des Couleurs. This has become a yearly family event. Good job and kudos to Mel for the 1st place AG finish! Congratulations to Julia Fraser who ran the County Marathon in Wellington, Ontario.
"I ran the County Marathon in Prince Edward County this morning...and finished at 4:01:26.....not bad for my second ever marathon. Definitely an improvement over 4:44 in Montreal in 2014." Good job Julia! Must be the Pipi Longstocking hair! :-) |
