You've come a long way in a short year and a 4:44 Montreal marathon last September!
Congratulations to young gun Shayan Mantegh who ran a sub 3:05 BQ at the Quebec City marathon. Since joining Phoenix in January of this year, Shayan has run 3 marathons, each with the intent to qualify for Boston. The time required for the 18-34 is 3:05 (see chart below for qualifying times). Shayan surprised us with an excellent time at the Toronto Goodlife marathon in 3:09:22 and then at the Ottawa marathon a few weeks later with a 3:07:20. Still a few minutes off, he tried again in Quebec city and finally succeeded with a new PB and BQ of 3:02:51. Shayan reached a new level in his running during the course of the summer with a brilliant run at the St-Anne 20k and a first ever 5k in DDO in 17:50. He ran a near perfect marathon in Quebec compared to his run in Toronto, the kid learns fast! Looking forward to seeing what is next for this young runner. Hope you can squeeze in below the cut-off for Boston, if not, no matter, you achieved your goal and ran your BQ, the rest is just registration capacity…
You've come a long way in a short year and a 4:44 Montreal marathon last September! Congratulations to our Phoenix Triathlon couple Sylvie Leduc and Claudio Cumetti who competed at the Timberman IRONMAN 70.3 August 21st.
Congratulations to Bruce Glasspoole who finished first in the 60-69 AG at the Lachine Half Marathon!
Congratulations to the Phoenix runners who showed up at the annual DDO 5km race. High Five to Shayan Mantegh who ran his first ever 5km race and a PB in 17:50. The Wilcox Family was in fine form, with dad Scott running a sub 22 and the little Wilcox running the 1km race, Alex has been training hard at track the last few weeks and it paid off with a first place finish in her AG. Bill Ludlow and Don Ross ran a very close race for the corn on the cob, while Pete Faucher managed a sub 20 for the first time in two years and after an 86 km weekend of running, don't try this at home kids! Congratulations to Ted Fenton, Susan Magher's better half, who ran a good race as well! 1 km 5 km

Good job Josiane, a 4th place finish in your AG, a podium next time :-) Congratulations to our dynamic duo Alan Miller and Nestor Lewyckyj who completed in brilliant fashion the 2016 Transrockies Run. A 6 days stage race covering 120 miles and 20,000 feet of elevation. Alan and Nestor brought home second place in the 100+ Team category, with a total 6 medals (1 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze). Well done gentlemen! For complete results : http://transrockies-run.com/results-2/ Congratulations to Elizabeth Mokrusa and Anthony Franchini who ran the 10k and 5k races at La Valse des Coureurs in Laval. They both placed well, finishing first in their Age Category and first woman overall for Liz!
Congratulations to Susan Magher who ran the 11k Great Raisin River Footrace. Susan has been a regular fixture at this race for many years. She placed 57th of 100 runners and finished 1st in her AG. At 68, she is still going strong!
Congratulations to everyone who ran the Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue race, good times and placement for everyone. Kuddos to Shayan on a 3rd place overall finish in the 20k. With a 3:58 pace, that would equate to a sub 1:24 half marathon. 20km 10km 5km
A few weeks ago Pete Faucher and Guillaume Bailly participated in the Québec Méga Trail 48km race in Mont-Saint-Anne. It is a really fun trail event and there are shorter distances for novice trail runners of all levels. It's a nice way to get into trail racing with some technical trails, a bit of mud and a few good climbs. For the 48km event this year, the organizers upped the ante with a climb on one of the steeper ski hills of the mountain for the second loop of the race. Even the fastest runners had to walk this one, 2.5km of steep ascent with grades upwards of 40%. In coming years, this will be the reason runners want to do this race… or not. |
