"Great morning at Course NDL. Thanks Pete for winning me that free entry and convincing me that I needed to "get back on the horse" after 6 months of plantar faciitis... still not sure if signing up for a race when you haven't run faster than easy pace since October should be recommended, but i guess it's one way to get motivated to do some hard training 😂
Also, Pete proved us all wrong... he actually CAN pace someone in a race, and even ran a few times behind me. In the last 4 Km I could see he was getting antsy because he was running about 10 meters ahead and doing his ziggzagging thing while yelling motivating things at me. Due to my lack of training I obviously didn't have any extra gears, and my lungs felt like marathon pace was hard enough.
My favorite Pete quote of the day was: "pretend like I'm Alan!" - I didn't answer at the time since I needed all my lungs to maintain 4:30 for another 3 k, but would've answered: "It would be easier if you wouldn't speed up every time I catch up to you!".
Then there were the remaining Km's that you would yell out to me: at the 6 k mark you said "3 k to go!". At that point I was only taking it one k at a time, but I knew there were 4 km's left (I was dying just the same as if I were running a sub 40 minute 10 k, but I ran a 44 min 10 k 😜).
I ended up on the podium since there were no women between me and the first place runner (who ran 39:23), but once the word gets out about the nice flat course with sections of long very subtle down hill I think I will need to run a lot faster to get on that podium again.
Thanks again Pete and Alvaro! Just the test I needed to see where I'm at 😁
Thanks Andre for being as supportive as always ❤️.
